Frequently Asked Questions

Mobile GA gives you a quick and easy way to access your Google Analytics data. It uses the Google Analytics API to communicate directly with Google's servers. Unlike other mobile analytic applications of its kind, it uses no third-party servers to store or process your information.

Currently, Mobile GA is only available for devices using Google Android.

You can download Mobile GA by visiting the Android Marketplace from your Android mobile phone.

Please note that if you are using a developer phone, you will not be able to see or download any paid applications, which includes Mobile GA.

When you first open Mobile GA, you are presented a login screen. You must have a Google Analytics account and a valid login for that account.

Enter your full email address on the first line.

Enter your password on the second line.

If you want your login information to be encrypted and stored on your phone for automatic logins in the future, check the "Auto Login" box.

Yes, unlike other mobile applications of its kind, it uses no third-party servers to store or process your information. Your login information is stored and encrypted on your phone. It is not stored anywhere else.

Mobile GA is very secure. Your login is only stored on your phone, and it is encrypted first. It is passed in an encrypted format to Google's servers only once per session. From then on, a token is passed between your phone and Google's servers.

All the information transmitted to your phone is sent via https. It is sent directly from Google's servers to your phone. All the data is processed on your device. There is no middleman, no third-party servers that store or process information, no communication with Actual Metrics or any other party.

The date range can be changed for each report to one of several preset ranges or a custom range can be defined. Also, you can compare date ranges for every report.

Mobile GA is intended for analysts and website owners who need to see data quickly while they are on the go. Since deep analysis is cumbersome from a mobile device, Mobile GA was designed to be lightweight and fast to use, putting function over form. It contains only the essential reports that a user might need to see with a mobile device without the clutter of multiple, unused reports.

As Mobile GA becomes more widely used, we listen to feedback to determine what other features and reports should be added to future versions and also what can be done to make viewing reports even faster and more intuitive.

Every report except date range comparison reports have graphs to view. To switch to graphs from a report, simply rotate your phone or open the keyboard to enable landscape mode. A graph of that data will load to the screen.

Adding a report to your favorites allows you to see commonly viewed reports for specific profiles with a single click when you login.

The number of favorite reports you can save is only limited by your phone's memory. For practical purposes, there is no limit.

From within any report, click the Menu button. Click "Add Favorite" from the popup menu. Select the date range that you would like it to appear in by default (today, yesterday, last seven days or last 30 days). Click "Add Favorite" to save it.

Once you've added a report to your favorites, a yellow star in the upper right hand corner will indicate that this report is saved.

Date range comparisons cannot be saved as favorites.

From any report, click the Menu button. Click "Set Date Range" in the menu popup. You have the option of choosing data from today, yesterday, the last seven days, the last thirty days or a custom date range.

Date range comparison reports are only available in the landscape mode. This is because the landscape mode gives sufficient space to display all of the data. Turning on date range comparison disables the graph mode.

To toggle date range comparison, flip the phone horizontally to landscape mode. Press the menu button and click "Compare Range" in the popup menu.

This will compare data from the current date range and the immediately preceding dates.

For example, if you are viewing a 30-day report and enable date range comparison, it will compare the previous 30 days to the 30 days preceding that.

Even after enabling date range comparison, flipping the phone to portrait mode will show only a single date range.

Mobile GA uses the Google Analyitcs API to access data securely and deliver it to your phone. Without an API, data must be stored on a third-party server, processed and then sent to your phone. The API allows Mobile GA to be faster, more secure and more flexible.

API stands for "application programming interface". In Google Analytics it allows back-end access to data within an account, which can then be exported, formatted and imported into other programs.

The Google Analytics API was released in April of 2009 and allows access to a wide range of metrics and reports for every profile in a user's account.

Mobile GA was created by Actual Metrics, a Google Analytics Authorized Consulting firm headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ. It is not controlled by nor is it the property of Google or its subsidiaries.
