Angelfish: Real-Time Stats Complement to Google Analytics

In mid-January of 2012, Google announced that development of Urchin Software would be terminated. On January 24, 2012, Actual Metrics announced the development of Angelfish Stats Software as a replacement for Urchin.

A little-known fact about Angelfish is that the product started out as a real-time addon for Google Analytics. When the real-time feature of Google Analytics was released, we decided to change our development plans and build a standalone software product.

We considered deleting this article from our blog but thought it best to leave it up here as a breadcrumb in the product lifecycle. If you read the below article, please disregard it!

About Angelfish

Angelfish is a new SaaS application allowing customers to track traffic to their websites in real-time. See unique visitor information such as IP addresses, browser details, geo location, time on site, and much more! Some other features include segmentation, event tracking, and e-commerce tracking - all in real-time!

How does Angelfish work?

Similar to Google Analytics, Angelfish uses a snippet of asynchronous JavaScript tracking code to collect visitor information and send that data back to our servers. It is compiled instantly to provide you with a real-time look at what's happening on your website. No additional effort is needed on your part!

Angelfish requires you to link new profiles to pre-existing Google Analytics profiles, then uses Google Analytics' permissions to grant other users access. If you create a new Angelfish profile linked to a GA profile with 20 users, all 20 users will then automatically have access to the Angelfish profile!

How much does Angelfish cost?

Currently, Angelfish is in a private beta. Anyone may create an account, log in, and view any Angelfish profiles linked to Google Analytics profiles they have access to, for free. For now, only a limited number of users are selected to create new profiles. In the future, paid plans will be available, though we will always maintain a free version of the application.
